Artwork from college until present

Hey youuu guys!!..

Right I thought I'd start blogging some artwork, its all the same stuff you may have seen on my Twitter, DeviantArt, and Facebook. But here goes. Ive also just started a blog on Word Press. My aim is to just start getting some stuff out there, Im still studying at University, so most of my artwork is project based - but also some of it is just for my own amusement, Hope you like it!

If you do, please follow me on Twitter https://twitter.com/mjdawson23 or DeviantArt http://mjdawson23.deviantart.com/

Rightey-Ho...

Ill start pretty much from the beginning, with some stuff from Art Foundation

This was for my Final Major Project, Its a poster design for 'The War of the Worlds'. I was brand new to photoshop, however it still is one of my favourite finished peices.

This was part of a mural I painted in a Vintage Clothes/Art shop called 'The Craft Collective'. This was my first commisioned art Job outside of College.

This was a Covered Submission I made in my first year at University, You can see it here, along with the original cover. http://coveredblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/mathew-dawson-covers-venom-sinner-takes.html

I went on to redesign this submission again. I wanted it to look darker, and more Evil!

My girlfriend has an obsession with Lady Gaga, So I drew this for her, and coloured it digitally. Its drawn from the photo-book by Terry Richardson.

During my first year at university I did some EP artwork for the metal band; 'Beyond Broken'. This being one of the first ones.

I also made this peice, mainly using Pen, and colour pencil - I then added the Red colours using digital colouring.

I went on to create something more digital for the final EP cover. At this time I was very much influenced with comic style art.

Following the comic style of drawing I had started to like, I drew this. It was a character design for a Super Villain -  for the Sunderland University Comix Club - Run by PandaFunkTeam http://pandafunkteam.blogspot.co.uk/

Also some of the other Comix artwork can be seen on the facebook page

This was another bit of artwork I did for a metal band named 'Secrects Beyond the Grave'. I did this a few months ago before starting my second year at Uni. looking at it now, I would like to reposition the skeleton, however the band were very happy indeed with it!

As I have my own fascination with the Metal Gear series, I thought it was only right to do another Covered Submission, this time covering Ashley Wood's take on the graphic novel - Only to find that Covered has shut down :-(  Oh well, it can go in the portfolio anyway!! Snaaaaaaake!!

Here is the full version of the image of Grey Fox. Hurt me snake!!
This was when I first got my Wacom Tablet, orignially it was a pen and pencil drawing, but then later got totally covered with digital colouring.

Continuing the use of the Wacom Tablet, I went on to draw this for a University project - I am currently designing a kids book, based on Aesops Fable - The Boy who cried Wolf.

This was an inital drawing for the same project, as I am now taking a more traditional direction of drawing for the book, as I think it is much better to see the mark making of real drawings in kids books, rather than digital drawings - which are more suitable for comics, graphic novels etc.

as a side project we had to create a poster designed for the V&A Museum, I put this together, mixing the usage of traditional drawing, and digital colouring. Also a lot of newly learnt skills using InDesign were included here.

This is a page design for 'The Boy who cried Wolf' for when the wolf appears in the book to eat the sheep. I used a lot of mixed media here, including charchoal, paint, pen, pencil, chalk, and digital colouring.

Here are examples of how the book will maybe look when its finshed. this is page 2 and 3

and here is page 4 and 5. A lot Inspiration from Dave Mckean's style of graphic novel has been used here.

This a drawing of Morbray Park in Sunderland, Drawn for the Design Magazine at Sunderland Uni.

This is a drawing of the Docks in sunderland, once again for the Design Magazine.
